HM King of Bahrain Receives Minister
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain received Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, at Al Safriya Palace, today.The meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in transportation, as well as several topics of mutual interest.

Minister Meets with Bahrain Transportation Minister
Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani met with Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, at the MTT’s offices.The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the areas of transportation, mobility services and their associated infrastructure, and ways to strengthen them.

Qatar Ranks High on Int’l Assoc. of Public Transport 2025 Report
Qatar ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in terms of the “Share of Populations with Convenient Access to Public Transport”, with 91.7%, according to the International Association of Public Transport (UITP)’s “MENA Transport Report 2025” issued by the Centre for Transport Excellence. This year’s edition broadened its scope, covering public transportation systems in 40 cities across 14 MENA countries.The capital city Doha has the world’s highest number of kilometers per million inhabitants (64km/1 million population) compared to several world capital cities. Doha also ranks third globally in terms of number of public buses for every one million inhabitants (969 buses/1 million inhabitants), which reflects Qatar’s significant investment in public transportation. Regarding the metro network fleet, Doha comes fourth globally in terms of number of metro cars (278 cars/1 million inhabitants).The UITP report lists Qatar among the top 20 countries in the world in terms of public transportation user experience alongside Amsterdam, Geneva and Singapore. The report shows Qatar as one of the most efficient countries in terms of public transportation fare according to the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), making public transportation affordable for all.According to the report, Qatar has one of the highest rankings in the MENA region in environmental sustainability of the transportation system with comprehensive plans for transition to clean energy. It also highlights Qatar among top countries in terms of the smart infrastructure for the public transportation system with an integrated network supported by digital transformation and sustainable facilities.The report lauds Qatar’s qualitative progress in upgrading its public transportation system in terms of infrastructure, sustainability, digital transformation, and integration of mobility modes, thereby meeting the needs of its population and visitors and supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030. The report underlines that such qualitative leapfrogs had demonstrated Qatar’s position as one of the leading countries in public transportation regionally and internationally.The report also highlighted the Doha Metro as one of the most advanced and most efficient mobility systems in the world thanks to its full driverless automation and high ridership per every 1 million people. It also lauded Doha Metro’s role in the success of major events Qatar organizes or hosts, first and foremost the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 where fans enjoyed safe and smooth movement.The report says Lusail Tram stands out and reflects ambitious urban planning. Serving the smart city of Lusail with the highest rates of kilometers per each one million inhabitants if compared to similar cities, the report said Lusail tramway network reflects a forward-looking vision to enhance urban mobility.The report says: “Qatar has taken significant steps toward electrification, with Doha integrating electric buses into its public transport network. Qatar has outlined plans to transition its public bus fleet to full electrification by 2030, supported by an expanding charging infrastructure and investments in smart mobility.”The report adds that Lusail is home to the world’s largest e-bus depot running on solar energy to feed its facilities, with advanced infrastructures including smart charging stations, digital tracking systems, and green maintenance centers.The report also praised Qatar’s success in integrating various transportation modes into one system while making several solutions available for users such as electronic payment using cards and via applications and smart platforms for trip planning and bus tracking, something which helps achieve smooth and efficient connectivity between metro networks, buses, trams and shared mobility.The UITP report says that Qatar’s experience in public transportation represents a role model, regionally and internationally, combing operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and technology innovation. It also reflects the country’s commitment to achieving the QNV 2030 and sustainable development goals and enhances its preparedness to host major events and offers world-class urban mobility experience.

QAA Celebrates Class of 2025 Graduation
The Qatar Aeronautical Academy today celebrated the graduation of Class 2025 in five civil aviation academic programs in attendance of and patronized by Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani.The five programs are Air Traffic Control, Pilot Training, Meteorology, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, and Airport Operations Management.The event was attended by several ministers, government entity chiefs, ambassadors, and aviation industry officials.QAA Director General H.E. Sheikh Jabor Bin Hamad Al-Thani addressed the attendance and congratulated the fresh graduates.

MOT Team Visits Bahrain MTT
Enhancing cooperation in areas of transportation infrastructure and technical expertise exchange to serve the mutual interests and keep pace with sustainable development trajectories were discussed as an MOT delegation, headed by Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Transport Affairs Dr. Saleh Bin Fetais Al-Marri, visited the Bahrain Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and met with MTT’s Undersecretary of Ports and Maritime Affairs H.E. Bader Hood Al Mahmood

Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani met with Minister of Public Works of the State of Kuwait H.E. Dr. Noura Muhammad Khaled Al-Mashaan, in the ministry’s offices today.The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the areas of transportation and its asso-ciated infrastructures, and ways to strengthen them.

MOT Partakes in Caucasus Investment Forum
An MOT delegation led by Acting Assistant Undersecretary of Land Transport Affairs Eng. Hamad Issa Abdullah has participated in the Caucasus Investment Forum in Mineralnie Vody, Russia.Attended by numerous Arab and foreign officials, the forum discussed multiple topics related to transportation and socioeconomic development in the Caucasus and its integration with the Middle East, in addition to enhancing infrastructure and supportive logistics services and stimulating the private sector’s participation in the investment opportunities in the Caucasus.The MOT delegation held separate meetings with Russia’s deputy minister of economic development and deputy director general of the Russian Railways. The meetings discussed bilateral cooperation ties and the latest on regional and international connection.

MOT Conducts Campaigns on Violating Passenger Transportation Companies
The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Interior, is conducting campaigns to make sure that passenger transportation companies have obtained the required legal licenses from the MOT and are following the requirements as per Law No. 8 of 2019 Regulating Road Transport and its Implementing Regulations issued by the Minister of Transport’s Decision No. 13 of 2024.The MOT’s campaigns have found out that the company TaxiF is violating the laws by offering the service of passenger transportation via electronic applications without prior MOT license.The campaigns also registered 11 violations for drivers of licensed limousine companies and 13 violations for drivers transporting passengers using private cars without a license, in violation of the abovementioned law and its regulations.The campaigns during Q1 of 2025 reported 66 violations for licensed limousine companies that do the business of passenger transportation via electronic applications.With such drives, the MOT continues to make sure the companies that perform that business follow all required safety standards and the requirements of the law in effect to make sure the companies provide the highest quality of service in a fair competitive environment. The MOT will continue cracking down on the unlicensed companies.The MOT will apply the applicable laws and regulations on the violating companies. It urges the companies to follow the laws in force and obtain the necessary licenses to be able to do the business legally.
Transportation Master Plan for Qatar-2050
This Plan works as a roadmap for investing in land transportation infrastructure and identifies the frameworks and future orientations for developing the transportation networks.
