The State of Qatar, represented by the Qatar Mission to the IMO, took part in the 111th Session of the International Maritime Organization's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 111), held at the IMO headquarters in London from May 13th to May 22nd, 2026.
Key topics discussed included maritime safety and security, particularly for the maritime autonomous surface ships, and draft workplans for the development of a safety regulatory framework to support the reduction of GHG emissions from ships using new technologies and alternative fuels.

During the session, the Qatari team emphasized the importance of safe and free maritime navigation, protection and wellbeing of seafarers, free and safe passage of merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters, and free sailing and passage as per the international laws. They also affirmed their unwavering support for the efforts aimed at providing the necessary help and assistance to ships and seafarers impacted offshore.

The Qatar Mission to the IMO actively participates in IMO’s technical meetings as Qatar continues supporting the international efforts aimed at ensuring maritime safety and security, and developing relevant regulatory frameworks, thereby enhancing collaboration among the IMO Member States.
