HIA & DIA Record Over 1500 Air Movements

Doha – Qatar More than 1500 air movements have been recorded at both Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport since the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 began. Qatar is expected to see a significant increase in the number of passengers and aircraft movement with the mass arrival of fans and visitors to the global sporting event. Years ago, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has carried out comprehensive development plans in the Qatari airspace in terms of increasing the number of air routes for inbound and outbound airplanes, to and from Qatar, and upgrading all the systems and technologies used in air navigation.

Minister Views World Cup Preparations at Air Navigation Facilities

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today toured air navigation facilities and inspected Qatar Civil Aviation Authority’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The minister inspected work at Hamad International Airport’s Control Tower - a facility highly equipped with advanced air navigation technologies that keep pace with universal standards. HIA is poised for excellent services during the tournament as aircraft movement is expected to exceed 1400 a day. He also inspected work at Qatar Air Traffic Control Center, which is considered the most advanced in the Middle East. Its virtual tower is second-to-none in the region equipped with sophisticated technologies that allow air controllers to manage aircraft and vehicle ground movement and monitor it remotely. The Center also features a well technologically equipped 360-degree 3D simulator room, all the facilities necessary for operational services, a search and rescue service, aeronautical information service and a communication, navigation & surveillance (CNS) office. H.E. Al-Sulaiti’s next stop was at the Firefighting and Rescue Department. One of its major functions is assessing aircraft ground movement around the clock in the approach, landing, ramp and parking areas of an aerodrome and develop preliminary actions to respond to any emergency.

Doha – Qatar H.E. Minister of Transport Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today led the State of Qatar’s delegation attending the 24th Meeting of the Committee of the GCC Ministers of Transport, held via videoconferencing. Their Excellencies the Ministers reviewed the latest updates regarding the GCC Railways Authority, its organizational structure and work during the coming year. They also discussed progress on the GCC Railway project and the set date to carry out and operate the project, as well as several topics relative to the land transportation strategy of the GCC, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the GCC uniform system for universal land transportation, and several topics related to maritime transportation and ports.

Doha – Qatar The Ministry of Transport has participated in the 24th Meeting of the GCC Undersecretaries of Ministries of Transport, held via videoconferencing and chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which presides over the current round. The meeting reviewed the latest updates regarding the GCC Railways Authority and work progress on the GCC Railway project and the set date to carry out and operate the project. The meeting also tackled the topics relative to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the GCC uniform system for universal land transportation In addition to topics related to maritime transportation and harbors such as updating the uniform controls for the licensing of ship inspection companies, which are not subject to international maritime conventions and the uniform methodology for investigating marine incidents in the GCC countries.

Minister Tours Mukaynis Meteorology Center, Inspects World Cup Preparations

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today toured the Mukaynis Meteorology Center and inspected its preparations related to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The Minister viewed the workflow at the Center, which includes a weather radar – the first of its kind in Qatar – and which significantly contributes to improving weather forecasts by monitoring numerous weather elements, thus enhancing weather forecasters’ job with regard to issuing immediate alerts during volatile conditions. Furthermore, officials from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority briefed him on preparations in place at other meteorological stations. Meteorology in Qatar has significantly progressed with the number of meteorology stations now hitting 46, including 8 stations at the World Cup stadiums to feed the championship organizers with real-time weather information around the clock via a safe and advanced automated system, in addition to the other new services on the Q Weather application.

Doha – QatarA coordinating meeting MOT organized with the bodies concerned has discussed the maritime vessels docking at the Corniche area. Assistant Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al-Marri represented the Ministry.The meeting tackled the procedures of individuals’ entry and exit into those vessels, as well as coordination with the bodies concerned with regard to regular inspections to make sure the crafts meet all maritime safety and security, and tourism requirements.
