Minister, Mongolian Counterpart Sign Air Services Agreement

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti and Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia H.E. Byambatsogt Sandag today signed an air services agreement between the State of Qatar and Mongolia. The agreement comes in the context of connecting Qatar with more such agreements that open airspaces for the national carrier to fly to more destinations around the world. After the signing ceremony, the two ministers discussed Qatar-Mongolia relations in the fields of transportation, civil aviation, air transportation activities, and means to further enhance them.

Doha – Qatar Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe H.E. Patrice Émery Trovoada met with Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti. Mr. Trovoada is currently visiting Qatar. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation relations in transportation industry, and ways to further enhance them. They also discussed several topics of common interest.

Minister Meets with Yutong Int’l Business Chairman

Doha – Qatar Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with Mr. Wang Wentao, Chairman of International Business in the Chinese Yutong, the leading global e-bus manufacturer. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation relations and latest updates regarding the strategic partnership for producing e-buses in Qatar, in addition to discussing cooperation in joint investments between Yutong and Mowasalat (Karwa). Mowasalat (Karwa) CEO Mr. Fahad Saad Al Qahtani attended the meeting.

MOT Wraps Up ISPS Code Workshop

Doha MOT has wrapped up a 3-day workshop on compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code). Organized in conjunction with maritime experts from the UK Department for Transport and attended by several maritime specialists from concerned entities, the workshop focused on ISPS Code and harbors protection, and concluded with MOT’s Assistant Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri awarding certificates to its attendees. The workshop comes in the context of Ministry’s interest in sharpening maritime specialists’ skillsets and expertise.

MOT Attends 20th Riyadh MoU Cmte. Meeting

Riyadh- An MOT delegation has attended the 20th Meeting of Committee on Riyadh MoU on Port State Control; an agreement to achieve safe, secure and efficient shipping in the maritime jurisdictions in the Gulf region, as per the provisions of global maritime conventions of the IMO. The delegation included Asst. Undersecretary, Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al-Marri, and several maritime transportation officials from MOT. Held in Muscat, the meeting discussed the MoU’s strategic plan for the next 5 years, and updating the committee’s financial and administrative approach by setting out the procedures that can ensure a transition to an advanced port state control mechanism in accordance with other international MoUs. It also discussed procedures of ensuring ships’ compliance with the global requirements for protecting lives and property at seas, in addition to other meeting agenda items.

Minister Meets with UN Special Envoy for Road Safety

Geneva – Switzerland Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met in Geneva with United Nations Secretary-General Special Envoy for Road Safety Mr. Jean Todt, on the sidelines of the 85th Session of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). They discussed enhancing Qatar-UN cooperation on road safety and pushing it up to new heights. They also reviewed latest developments with relation to road safety as per the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, Minister Al-Sulaiti highlighted Qatar’s experience regarding improving road safety, and its significant achievements such as in traffic-related death rate, which has decreased in coincidence with Qatar’s application of its National Road Safety Strategy. Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva H.E. Dr. Hend Abdalrahman Al-Muftah attended the meeting.
