HBKU Signs MoU with ICAO on Enhancing Collaboration on Innovation in Aviation

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti today attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the International Civil Aviation Organization, which aims to enhance collaboration on innovation and developing the civil aviation ecosystem.  The MoU was signed by HBKU President Dr. Ahmed M. Hasnah and President of the ICAO Council H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano.The MoU aims to establish a framework of collaboration for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices on innovation in pursuance of the strategic objectives of both the ICAO and HBKU. It also aims to contribute to strengthening the aviation ecosystem through research and capacity building. Further opportunities for cooperation and joint initiatives include the development of studies, events, and training.As per the MoU, the two Parties will endeavor to collaborate on topics related to innovation in aviation in areas such as the environment, climate science, sustainable navigation technologies, aviation security, cybersecurity, drones and unmanned aircraft systems, crises and outbreaks, sustainable tourism, air connectivity and promoting the sector’s contribution to economic development, integrated intermodal transport systems and smart travel, and workforce planning.On this occasion, H.E. Al-Sulaiti stressed the importance of this MoU for the exchange of knowledge and expertise, innovation, and studies, research, and training, thereby supporting capacity building and manpower development in line with the goals of the QNV 2030.The Ministry of Transport, he said, always encourages broader collaboration and integration between our national educational institutions and UN bodies concerned with transportation and civil aviation with a view to matching their output with national efforts to develop these two sectors. This will raise their competitiveness in terms of research and academic studies, in addition to upskilling their manpower, he noted.The Minister thanked both HBKU and the ICAO for their efforts to sign this MoU, which, he said, would serve civil aviation activities and support the issues of environment and sustainability, in addition to supporting ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” (NCLB) initiative, and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Hasnah said: “Our collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will undoubtedly enhance and support research, development, and innovation in this field. In support of this, we will craft specialized research activities and deliver training workshops directly informed by HBKU’s distinguished record of research in various sectors, including aviation and cybersecurity. Besides building on the diversity of partnerships we already have with national and international institutions, our collaboration with the ICAO also aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030’s commitment to cultivating skilled professionals across diverse sectors.”Qatar is an active member of the ICAO Council and passionate supporter of its strategic goals, particularly the resolutions focused on innovation, which align with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council President H.E. Salvatore Sciacchitano.The meeting was held in the Ministry’s offices today. The two officials discussed ways of enhancing Qatar-ICAO relations in civil aviation and contributing to environment protection, as well as research and development on reducing carbon emissions.The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Faleh Al-Hajri, in charge of managing the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, and Eng. Mohamed Abu Baker Farea, Regional Director, Middle East Office, ICAO.

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with the Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Lebanon H.E. Amin Salam, who is visiting the country.The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the fields of transportation, and ways to enhance the economic partnership in these fields and take it to higher heights.

70th Round of Arab Union of Land Transport Board of Directors Meeting Opens Here, Patronized by Minister

Meeting of the 70th round of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union of Land Transport opened in Doha today, hosted by Mowasalat (Karwa), and patronized by Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, who is the president of the 36th Session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers.Chairman of the AULT’s Board of Directors Eng. Khaled A. Al Hogail, Secretary-General Mr. Malek Haddad, and members of the Board of Directors attended the meeting. AULT is a pan-Arab organization comprising largest Arab passenger and cargo transportation companies.In his remarks, Minister Al-Sulaiti stressed on the importance of supporting common Arab action to further develop the transportation industry, aiming to achieve sustainable development and pan-Arab economic growth. He wished for a successful meeting, wrapping up with outcomes that can further enhance public-private sector cooperation in transportation and mobility, thereby reflecting positively on the smooth exchange of goods and enhancing pan-Arab trade.  He also pointed out to the efforts of the ministries and relevant entities of all Arab countries to develop the sector. He also said he emphasized to the Arab transportation ministers, during the 36th Session of Council of Arab Transport Ministers in Alexandria last month, the importance of addressing and resolving all the challenges that the transportation sector and AULT encounter.The meeting discussed key projects of land transportation at the regional and pan-Arab levels, including supporting the AULT’s plans and projects that aim to establish a database for ground safety in the Arab countries and the plans of upskilling the drivers through participating in training courses on hazardous materials transportation in conjunction with the IRU.

MOT Concludes Marine Casualty & Incident Investigation Regional Training

The Ministry of Transport has wrapped up the Regional Training Course on Marine Casualty and Incident Investigation it organized in conjunction with the International Maritime Organization. The training was attended by several maritime specialists from the MOT, other government entities, and some Arab countries.The course refreshed and updated maritime investigators’ knowledge of the IMO’s decisions and principles to assist national maritime authorities in conducting uniform investigations into marine casualties and incidents. The training also included explanations on the sharing of information among investigators for enhanced investigation cooperation at the regional level.The weeklong course comes in the context of improving maritime specialists’ capacity and expertise in the field.

Minister Heads Qatar Delegation to 25th GCC Transport Ministers’ Committee Meeting

Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti headed the State of Qatar’s delegation participating in the 25th Gulf Cooperation Council Transport Ministers’ Committee Meeting, in Muscat, Oman. The ministers discussed several topics that enhance cooperation among GCC states in the areas of transportation and mobility. They also took the necessary decisions regarding the GCC Railways Authority and work progress on the GCC railway project and its execution and operation schedules, in addition to developing a land transportation strategy for the GCC countries, the executive regulations of the GCC uniform system for universal land transportation, and several other topics relating to maritime transportation and ports.
