ICAO Council Holds Meeting to Review Qatar File
Montreal – CanadaThe International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council held a meeting to discuss the State of Qatar’s report on the impacts on aviation and air safety and security caused by the blockade imposed by three Gulf countries.The Council decided to extend its meeting time and to hold a session this July 6 at the ICAO Regional Office to look into the technical report submitted by the State of Qatar. That meeting will be followed by another meeting in the same month at the ICAO premises in Montreal to find the legal solutions for the technical file Qatar had submitted to the Organization.HE the Minister acknowledged the role being played by ICAO, praising its efforts in this regard, and stressing that the blockade countries’ encroachments of aviation safety and security contradict all norms and agreements binding on all parties, in addition to the serious consequences they cause to air safety and security.He expressed hope for the ICAO Council’s urgent move to make appropriate decisions toward the right of air passage, blockade countries’ infringements of the international law, as per ICAO’s current dispute resolution mechanism, and toward the opening of air routes for Qatar’s national carrier in air spaces and over the high seas.
