MOTC Launches Medical Examination Certificate Services for Seafarers

Doha – QatarThe Ministry of Transport and Communications today signed a memorandum of cooperation with Al Ahmadani Medical Center for the purposes of medical examinations and medical certifications for seafarers.The Center will provide medical examinations and fitness reports for seafarers and people working onboard vessels in line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW 1978), its amendments and with the endorsement of Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.The memo was signed by MOTC’s Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Transport Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri and Chairperson of Al Ahmadani Medical Center Mrs. Ibtehaj Mohammed Al Ahmadani.The Center will perform all medical examinations for seafarers and people working onboard vessels everyday around the clock. It will also establish an electronic record to update and save checkup data and results.“These services are a part of MOTC’s strategy for planning and developing the maritime transport sector to ensure that the requirements of international conventions in force are met,” said Dr. Al Marri.Such services, he added, would contribute to enhancing the functioning of Qatar’s commercial and industrial ports globally with a view to promoting the Qatari maritime sector to the international ranking it deserves.He said that the Center has all the required medical and technical capabilities as well as qualifications and approvals from the bodies concerned to be in charge of performing medical examinations and issuing fitness reports for seafarers and those working onboard vessels.

Minister Meets with Iraqi Ambassador

Doha – QatarHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with the Ambassador of Iraq in Doha HE Mr. Omar Ahmed Karim al-Barazanchi.The two officials discussed cooperation relations between the two brotherly countries in the fields of transportation, ports and communications and means of further enhancing them.

The Qatar Rail have been crowned champions of the sixth annual Minister’s Ramadan Football Cup Competition 2019

Doha – QatarTuesday's final of the Minister of Transport and Communications’ Sixth Ramadan Football Cup Championship at the Ali Bin Hamad al-Attiyah Arena will be remembered for long, most notably, for Qatar Rail’s landslide.The Qatar Rail football team have been crowned champions of the Sixth annual Minister’s Ramadan Football Cup Competition 2019 after defeating the Mawani Qatar team 2-1There were many goals in one direction and everything was fully under Qatar Rail’s control in a faceoff that saw only one goal for the opposing team.To score a goal was not a hard job for Qatar Rail players. The match was neither a tight affair nor a deadlock to break. The ball touched Mawani Qatar’s net 2 times.Qatar Rail, which scored 2 easy goals, actually wasted several other golden scoring opportunities.

Qatar Ranks First in Gulf Region in Mobile Internet, Broadband Speed

Doha,Qatar has ranked first in the Gulf region and fifth globally on the mobile Internet speed index at 59.90 Mbps, followed by UAE at the seventh place globally at 56.33 Mbps, Saudi Arabia at the 35th place globally at 35.06 Mbps, Oman at the 36th place at 35.06 Mbps and Bahrain at the 59th place at 26.37 Mbps, according to Speedtest Global Index, which ranks mobile and fixed broadband speeds from around the world on a monthly basis.The Index also ranked Qatar first among all Gulf countries and 39th globally in terms of fixed broadband Internet speed for the month of April with a speed of 62.65 Mbps.The Index indicated that the upload speed in Qatar reached an average of 16.6 Mbps from the mobile Internet and 32.20 Mbps from the fixed broadband Internet.Norway ranked first globally in terms of mobile Internet speed at 65.41 Mbps, followed by Canada at 64.42 Mbps and S. Korea at 63.81 Mbps.Singapore ranked first globally in terms of fixed broadband Internet speed at 197.50 Mbps, followed by Hong Kong at 172.67 Mbps and S. Korea at 144.76 Mbps.

MOTC Calls for Innovative Digital Content Entries for “World Summit Awards 2019"

Doha,The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) is now accepting applications at national level for the “World Summit Awards 2019”.The World Summit Awards (WSA) is an international competition that selects and promotes the world’s best start-ups in digital content and innovative applications that are having a significant impact on improving society. Combining an ongoing series of international events and activities with a global network of start-ups, social entrepreneurs, mentors, jurors, speakers, experts, government leaders, academics and civil society, WSA seeks to raise awareness and give recognition to the best e-Content produced all around the world.Companies, institutions and individuals across the country are now invited to join the competition by submitting their best digital content applications to compete in eight award categories, with winners representing Qatar at the world level. Applications will be accepted until June 10, 2019.The eight award categories are: government & citizen engagement, health & wellbeing, environment & green energy, business & commerce, learning & education, culture & tourism, smart settlements & urbanization, and inclusion & empowerment.A local jury, chaired by the national expert of WSA for Qatar, Ms. Reem Al-Mansoori, MOTC Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development Affairs, will assess the submissions and select one qualified work for each category to represent Qatar.The international selection process involves four stages, from local country selection to a global shortlist of five projects per category, and finally the announcement of the winners. Jury panels consist of renowned international experts. Winners will be announced to the public and will be invited to the WSA Global Congress where they will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to an international on-site panel.All submissions must be no more than two years old (after January 1, 2017) when submitted to the competition, and may include any applications that offer useful, high quality, innovative digital content such as webpages, interactive and SMS-based products, etc.Submitted projects should be real ventures that are already up and running. Incomplete trial versions will not be accepted and will be automatically eliminated.All work must be free of offensive or plagiarized content and may not violate human rights as laid out in the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Submissions that encourage war, violence or discrimination, will not be accepted. Similarly, submissions that violate international copyright provisions will be excluded.Qatari entrepreneur and inventor Mohammed Al Jefairia won the WSA for Digital Innovation 2018 in the Inclusion & Empowerment Category for his project Deaf Pedia - a platform that supports the deaf by offering an open source platform to share and improve sign language.Those interested in joining the competition are invited to send detailed information on their work to MOTC via email: wsa@motc.gov.qa. Doha Metro Red Line South Initial Operation Open for Public Wednesday

Doha – QatarThe Ministry of Transport and Communications announces that the Doha Metro Red Line South will start its initial operation for the public this Wednesday, May 8. That Line extends from Al Qassar to Al Wakra.The initial operation includes 13 out of 18 Red Line stations: Al Qassar, DECC, QIC West Bay, Corniche, Al Bidda (Interchange Station), Msheireb (Interchange Station), Al Doha Al Jadeda, Umm Ghawalina, Al Matar Al Qadeem, Oqba Ibn Nafie, Free Zone, Ras Bu Fontas and Al Wakra.Operation timings will be from Sunday through Thursday from 08:00 to 23:00.
