Minister Meets with ICAO Council President

Montreal – CanadaHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met with the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council HE Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu in Montreal, Canada, today.The meeting discussed Qatar-ICAO relations in the field of civil aviation and means of further enhancing them.The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada HE Mr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud and Chairman of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) HE Mr. Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey.

Minister, Kenyan Counterpart Sign on Increasing National Carrier’s Doha-Mombasa Flights

Doha – QatarHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti and HE Kenyan Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Mr. James Macharia, today signed on increasing the number of Qatar’s national carrier Qatar Airways flights between Doha and Mombasa by two flights to go up to six flights a week.This comes within the framework of boosting business, trade and investment opportunities between the two friendly countries.Mombasa is the principal Kenyan seaport and the second largest city in Kenya behind the capital city Nairobi with a major economic and touristic significance.The two sides also agreed on signing a cooperation agreement before the end of this year between Hamad Port and Lamu Port, in addition to forming a joint working committee for enhancing all aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transportation and ports.The signing ceremony was attended by HE Kenya’s Ambassador to Qatar Mr. Paddy C Ahenda.

Minister Meets with Kenya Minister of Transport

Doha – QatarHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti held talks here today with HE the Kenyan Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Mr. James Macharia.The two ministers discussed aspects of cooperation between Qatar and Kenya in the fields of transport services, ports and aviation, and means of further enhancing them. They also discussed potential investment opportunities in these fields, in addition to a number of matters of common interest between the two friendly countries.Qatar Airways Group CEO HE Mr. Akbar Al Baker and HE Kenya’s Ambassador to Qatar Mr. Paddy C Ahenda attended the meeting.

Minister Meets with Brazilian Minister of Communications

Doha – QatarHE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti met here today with HE the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications Mr. Marcos Pontes.The wo officials discussed aspects of cooperation in the fields of communications and information technology and means of further enhancing them, in addition to drawing on potential investment opportunities in those fields. They also discussed a number of topics that concern the two friendly countries.HE the Minister also invited the Brazilian official to the upcoming Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition taking place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.The meeting was attended by Brazil’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Mr. Roberto Abdalla.

MOTC Completes Dredging Works at Doha Port

Doha - QatarThe Ministry of Transport and Communications has completed the dredging works at Doha Port as part of its redevelopment project.Up to 3.5mn cubic meters of material in the approach channel have been cleared and an extra berthing has been provided to accommodate more than one giant cruise ship.MOTC aims to boost Doha Port’s capacity to be able to receive the largest cruise ships in the future, helping to position the capital city among world’s top cruise ship tourism destinations. “Doha Port redevelopment works contribute to achieving the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2018-2023 that aims to place Qatar among world’s best tourism locations, within the framework of the larger Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of Technical Affairs, MOTC.“Transforming Doha Port into a main hub for cruise ships in the region will generate significant economic returns to several key industries in Qatar like hotels, restaurants, retail and service sectors,” he added. “Additionally, it’s going to be one of Qatar’s key landmarks during the FIFA World Cup 2022,” he noted.Sheikh Al Thani said that Doha Port will contribute to boosting Qatar’s ranking as a favorite tourism destination in the region through receiving supersize cruise ships and providing all that is required to help bolster such a crucial industry, which, eventually, contributes to economic diversification.
